(a humbling prologue)
child so hidden you
lost the fiction. we
did it together, neither
dead nor elsewise.
alive was who we were,
then, as bodies. from
all things juvenile ex
punged, came the
incantation. oh, you
mealy spirits of
scholarship. all
are stunted.
and then, as
bodies awake,
arrived. open
their eyes.
starving eyes.
ladies and men
of little to no
practice, finish
the sentences.
a demand those
alive pay little
to no heed. of
those few spirits
of freshly gained
flesh. that mess
of ghosts
awakening to
war. a few
sleeping verses.
unaware of
making it
to adulthood,
but beware,
take heed,
they slumber
no more.
